Online Poker Tips

We provide the following poker tips to improve your online poker playing

Set a target

One of the most important things, set a target to aim for, e.g. twice your initial deposit. When you hit this target or come within a close percentage withdraw your money and leave the table. If you become tempted to continue playing you are more in danger of getting a bad beat and losing a lot of money.

Use four colour decks

This is a simple change but very effective to your online playing. Using a four colour deck will eliminate the possibility of making mistakes when going for a flush. It might seem unlikely but the longer you play the more chance of a mistake. It might seem strange to play with four colours at first but you will get used to it very quickly.

Calculate the odds

If you are waiting for just one card to complete your hand then calculate the odds of achieving that card. This can be calculated very easily by working out how many cards could complete your hand, then multiply that by two and add one.

Example

If you have two hearts, the table has two hearts and two other cards, then the odds of getting the final heart can be calculated by working out that there are eight possible hearts remaining. Therefore multiply that by two and add one. So there is a 17% chance that the card will be drawn.

Now calculate what percentage of the pot you would need to stake to see the final card. If the pot is 200 and you need to stake 100 to see it, then you have to stake 50% of the pot and you should fold. If there is 1000 in the pot and you need to stake 100 to see it, then you would only need to stake 10% of the pot. As this is less than the 17% chance of getting the card you should call the bet.

If this seems a like you are adding too much complexity into the game then make use of a poker tool that will do all of this for you!
